Report: Josh Donaldson waiting for club to match $110 million asking price
Josh Donaldson is one of the most in-demand position players remaining on the free agent market, and he’s apparently named his price already.
According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, Donaldson has four-year offers from the Atlanta Braves, Minnesota Twins, and Washington Nationals. His asking price is believed to be in the $110 million range, and he’s simply waiting for one of the interested teams to offer him that guarantee.
It’s not clear where those current offers sit as of now. If this report is true, they’re shy of the magic number, and Donaldson isn’t in the mood to compromise. The 2015 AL MVP just turned 34 and this is likely his last chance at a big-money contract.
Given the positional scarcity and the needs of various contenders, it seems likely that he’ll eventually get what he wants. For what it’s worth, the Twins are said to be the frontrunner, but bidding apparently remains wide open.
