Report: Justin Verlander blocked trade to Astros
The Houston Astros apparently made a big effort to acquire Justin Verlander from the Detroit Tigers prior to Friday’s deadline, but the deal fell through when Verlander blocked the trade, according to a report.
The Detroit News’ Chris McCosky says the Tigers and Astros agreed to a deal but Verlander refused to waive his no-trade clause.

I have been told that Verlander deal is off. Apparently he didn't waive no trade clause. Again, Verlander deal has been nixed

Verlander has a full no-trade clause, which gives him the power to veto any trade. His reasons for reportedly blocking the trade have not been shared.
A potential compensation package for Detroit reportedly would have included Franklin Perez, Daz Cameron and possibly Jake Rodgers.

Now that Verlander has blocked the trade, he will remain with the Tigers through the rest of the season.
Detroit dealt Justin Upton to the Angels on Thursday for two prospects. They are embracing a rebuild and may look to trade Verlander and others (Ian Kinsler, Nick Castellanos) during the offseason. Houston meanwhile was unable to address their biggest weakness entering September — their pitching rotation, though not for a lack of effort.
