Kenley Jansen says he has shed 25 pounds ahead of new season
After one of the shakiest seasons of his career, Kenley Jansen is in shape and ready to right the ship in 2019.
The Los Angeles Dodgers closer posted a career-worst 3.01 ERA in 2018 while simultaneously battling a heart issue, but he said Saturday that he’s worked out aggressively, changed his diet, and lost weight to get into better shape ahead of the new season.
Kenley Jansen said he lost 25 pounds since the end of the season. He’s down to 258, his lowest weight since 2012. Said he worked out twice a day while giving up sugar and carbs.
As for his heart, he’s a full go. He said he just needs to remain hydrated.

Jansen is still only 31 and has a long track record of success, so for him to be this motivated and putting this much work in can only be seen as a good thing. As long as his heart issue is corrected — and it seems that it has been — he looks to be in line for a nice bounceback season.
