Kiké Hernandez isn’t quite as beloved on the road as he is at home.
The Los Angeles Dodgers utilityman Hernandez was involved in a bizarre moment during Sunday’s game against the Phillies in Philadelphia. With two outs in the seventh inning (after the Phillies had already scored twice to take an 8-7 lead), Hernandez caused a delay by walking over to the home dugout in order to switch out his glove.
Hernandez ended up getting booed by the home crowd at Citizens Bank Park over the delay, and once he had secured a new piece of leather, he even gestured to the angry fans in an apparent apology. Here is the video.

It is unclear if Hernandez was being superstitious there or if he had damaged his original glove at some point and had to get it changed out of necessity. But what we do know is that he drew the start at first base and had already been playing there for a good long while before deciding that the glove switch was necessary.
The Phillies would go on to win by that 8-7 margin, handing the Dodgers just their second defeat of the season. Meanwhile, the Phillies themselves improved to an NL East-leading 7-2.
As for Hernandez, he is a local Los Angeles fan favorite who played a part in the Dodgers’ World Series victories in both 2020 and 2024 and even recently made a surprise appearance on MLB’s latest list of best-selling jerseys. But on Sunday in front of the notoriously tough Philadelphia fans, who are known for booing anything and everything, Hernandez was unable to keep the good vibes going.
