Kolten Wong becoming postseason hero for Cardinals (Video)
Kolten Wong was a playoff goat last year for the St. Louis Cardinals, but this time around, he’s become the hero.
The 24-year-old rookie was picked off as a pinch-runner last year to end Game 4 of the World Series between the Cardinals and Red Sox. The Cards were up 2-1 in the series and Carlos Beltran was at the plate in the 9th inning of Game 4 representing the tying run when Wong was picked off.
This year has been a totally different story.
On Sunday, Wong hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 9th to give the Cards a 5-4 win over the Giants in Game 2 of the NLCS. It was Wong’s second home run of the postseason. He also hit a 2-run, tie-breaking home run in the bottom of the 7th inning of Game 3 of the NLDS between the Cardinals and Dodgers to give St. Louis a 3-1 lead. The Cards won Game 4 to clinch the series.
How pumped were Wong’s teammates about his walk-off homer in Game 2 Sunday night? They tore his jersey in half during the celebration:
