A new horse suddenly appears to be entering the race for Kyle Tucker.
The New York Yankees are considering a run at the four-time MLB All-Star outfielder Tucker, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reported on Monday. Heyman notes that the Yankees are also currently eyeing two-time All-Star shortstop Bo Bichette in free agency, which had previously been reported.
However, the Yankees are said to be more “on the periphery” right now for Tucker as the New York Mets, Toronto Blue Jays, and Los Angeles Dodgers are seen as the three more likely suitors. You can read Heyman’s full report on the situation here.
This news comes with the Yankees currently at an impasse in talks with free agent outfielder Cody Bellinger. The former NL MVP Bellinger reportedly wants a contract for a longer length than the Yankees are willing to offer.
Tucker, 28, is a lefty hitter like Bellinger and also plays in right field like Bellinger does (though Bellinger played all three outfield positions for the Yankees last season). The former World Series champion Tucker hit .266 with 22 home runs, 73 RBIs, and 25 stolen bases overall last season for the Chicago Cubs.
Obviously though, the Yankees will be facing an uphill climb to land Tucker at this point. A major bidding war for Tucker’s services has ensued, and one of his aforementioned suitors has reportedly made the biggest offer so far.
