
Lucas Giolito was so nasty on Sunday that he caused an opponent to lose an unusual piece of equipment on a swing.
Giolito struck out 13 over six innings in a 2-0 loss to the Oakland A’s. He fooled Matt Olson on a changeup in the sixth inning that saw Olson’s batting glove fly off:

We’ve seen players lose a helmet or bat on a swing. Some even get brought to their knees. But losing a batting glove seems like a first.
Even though Giolito fooled Olson on that pitch to strike him out, Olson still had the advantage. He got Giolito with a 2-run home run in the fourth, which accounted for the only runs of the game.
Giolito is 12-6 with a 3.42 ERA and 171 strikeouts in 136.2 innings this season.
