The Philadelphia Phillies’ hopes of a deep playoff run may have just taken a hit.
Philadelphia played on Thursday against the Milwaukee Brewers at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pa. During the sixth inning of the contest, Phillies infielder Luis Arraez hit a grounder down the middle.
The ball was fielded by Brewers shortstop Cooper Pratt, but his throw pulled first baseman Jake Bauers off the bag. Arraez managed to successfully avoid Bauers’ tag for the infield hit, but he paid the price for doing so.
During the play, Arraez’s left ankle was caught awkwardly underneath him. That left Arraez writhing in pain on the infield dirt. Here is the video.

Arraez would have to leave the game and could not put any weight on his left ankle as he exited. He was ultimately replaced by teammate Edmundo Sosa.
The three-time batting champion Arraez, 29, was the Phillies’ big acquisition of the trade deadline (from the San Francisco Giants). He was an All-Star this year and entered play on Thursday batting .283 over 45 games with Philly. But now there is major uncertainty about Arraez’s availability for a potential playoff run, adding to the slew of bad news that the Phillies have already gotten this month.
