Marcell Ozuna agrees to one-year, $18 million deal with Braves

Marcell Ozuna

The Atlanta Braves are moving right on after Josh Donaldson’s departure.

Jeff Passan of ESPN reported on Tuesday that free agent outfielder Marcell Ozuna has agreed to a one-year, $18 million deal with the Atlanta Braves.

Ozuna, perhaps the top remaining bat on the market, hit .241 with 29 homers and 89 RBIs in 130 games for the St. Louis Cardinals last season. He had been extended a $17.8 million qualifying offer by the Cardinals, who will now receive draft pick compensation for his exit.

The signing marks a victory for the Braves, who went 97-65 last season, as they had been after Ozuna along with other free agent power hitters.
