The Seattle Mariners are adding a player from the other coastline.
Mariners reporter Ty Dane Gonzalez reported on Monday that the team is signing former Washington Nationals outfielder Victor Robles. Seattle had recently opened up a spot on their active roster by sending fellow outfielder Jonatan Clase down to Triple-A Tacoma.
The righty-hitting Robles, 27, is an ex-top prospect who spent the first eight seasons of his career with the Nationals, including during their 2019 World Series title. 2019 was also Robles’ best overall year in the big leagues as he hit .255 with 17 home runs, 65 RBIs, and 28 stolen bases in 155 games.

But Robles was felled in more recent years by injuries and ineffectiveness. He was limited to just 36 games for Washington in 2023 due to lingering back issues and was batting a wretched .120 this season before the Nats finally DFA’d him last month.
Meanwhile, the 34-27 Mariners are currently in first place but in an awful AL West this year. They recently made a notable coaching staff change and are also now adding more outfield depth in Robles, who could platoon with lefty-hitting outfielders Luke Raley and Dominic Canzone.
