Mark Teixeira closed out his illustrious career in 2016, his final season with the New York Yankees, but he still plays attention to the team.
When the Yankees opted to give top prospect Gleyber Torres Teixeira’s old No. 25, the former first baseman didn’t mind. In fact, if Torres plays well, he sees a huge benefit for himself personally.
I thinks it’s awesome that @TorresGleyber is wearing #25 for the @Yankees. I hope he becomes a star and millions buy his jerseys. Then when I see them in the stadium and on the streets I can tell people, “Look, another Tex jersey”.

That’s the great advantage of playing for the Yankees — their famous jerseys don’t feature names on the back, so Teixeira really will be able to pretend if Torres proves a huge success. It’s good to see the former first baseman has mellowed a bit in retirement.
