Tuesday’s game between the Padres and Pirates was temporarily delayed due to weather during the third inning. Unfortunately, it wasn’t just rain that was the problem. Putting the tarp over the infield was made much more difficult than normal by strong winds, which wreaked havoc on the grounds crew.
Once the tarp was unrolled, Andrew McCutchen, Sean Rodriguez, and Gregory Polanco had to help the crew get it into position so stakes could be put in place to hold the tarp down. During the process, one member of the grounds crew was completely swallowed by the tarp, as it folded over top of him.
Thankfully, the gentleman was ok, other than being a little sore.
Pittsburgh Man Eaten Alive By Tarp — saw him in the PNC Park tunnel a few minutes ago, sore and weary, but OK: http://t.co/zU5saUbxXx
