Mets 1B Dominic Smith has funny reaction to rat in dugout
A rat got loose on the field and in the visitor’s dugout during Friday’s New York Mets-Boston Red Sox game at Fenway Park, leading to a funny postgame quote from Mets first baseman Dominic Smith.
The rat was seen running around the perimeter of the field, scurrying behind homeplate and going into the Mets’ dugout.

Smith, who was 0-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout in the 8-0 win over the Red Sox, said that he hates rats, though he did acknowledge the rat was a “nice” one.
"The thing was, he was a nice rat," said Dominic Smith, who recently watched a documentary about rats. "He wasn’t trying to get anybody. He was trying to run. There are some mean rats out there."

Who knew Dominic Smith had such deep thoughts on rats? The 23-year-old former first-round pick is batting .214 in 103 at-bats this season.
