The New York Mets are not performing as they expected to, but it will not yet threaten manager Mickey Callaway’s job, according to reports.
Mets COO Jeff Wilpon summoned Callaway and general manager Brodie Van Wagenen for a meeting on Friday, but according to multiple reports, Callaway’s job is safe for now, albeit with a sense of urgency around it.
Mets COO Jeff Wilpon met with Brodie Van Wagenen and Mickey Callaway for about 90 minutes today, discussing ways to stop the bleeding from a 17-20 start. I'm told no one in the room threatened Callaway's job, though it's clear ownership is not happy with how the Mets are playing.

Mickey Callaway’s job is safe right now. His status was not discussed in the meeting with Jeff Wilpon and BVW that was reported by @Joelsherman1. Clearly, Mets need to play better, but at this moment the manager’s job is not on the line.

The Mets are 8-16 in their last 24 games, and it’s quite discouraging that the team had a similar swoon after a hot start last season. Callaway seemed a touch overwhelmed then, and he’ll have to right the ship more quickly this time if he wants to keep his job.
