Miami Heat are expected to part ways with 1 All-Star player

The Miami Heat may finally be ending the Boy Wonder era this offseason.

Miami appears to be headed towards a divorce with veteran guard Tyler Herro, Heat writer Greg Sylvander reported this week in a local news Discord server. Sylvander noted that the two sides will likely be parting ways “one way or another.”

Herro, 26, was drafted by the Heat with the No. 13 overall pick in 2019 and has been with them ever since. The ex-Kentucky standout has developed into an award-winning player, taking home NBA Sixth Man of the Year honors in 2022 before being named an NBA All-Star in 2025.

But Herro is also often criticized for his inability to stay on the court. Though he averaged 20.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game this season, Herro was only able to play in 33 total games for Miami due to various injuries (marking the fifth time in seven career seasons that he had appeared in 55 games or less).

Additionally, Herro has had a complicated relationship with the Heat in the last several years. Herro was regularly dangled as a trade piece by Miami as they (unsuccessfully) went big-star hunting over the past few summers and was seemingly put off by his constant inclusion on the trade block.

Now a Herro trade may finally be coming to fruition this offseason, especially given the guard’s shaky fit with fellow ball-dominant scorer Norman Powell in Miami. Herro is entering the final year of his contract next season at $33 million and might draw interest for both his talent and for the fact that he is a large expiring.
