One of the most popular local broadcasters in Major League Baseball announced Thursday that he is retiring at the end of the current season.
Mike Krukow, who has been an analyst for San Francisco Giants games since 1990, will retire at the end of the season, he announced. In a statement released through the Giants, he called his broadcasting career a “gift,” and said he was “bracing for the emotional hits we know we are going to feel in the next few weeks.”

Alongside play-by-play announcer Duane Kuiper, Krukow has been a fixture on Giants broadcasts for over three decades. The 74-year-old started as a radio analyst in 1990 and took over the job full time in 1994. He has covered a number of the most famous moments in Giants history, including a trio of World Series teams, as well as Barry Bonds’ run at both the single-season and all-time home run records.
Fans of a certain age may also remember him as one of the announcers for EA Sports’ “MVP Baseball” series from 2003 to 2005.
Giants fans loved Krukow for his quirky yet unvarnished commentary. They will miss him greatly next season and beyond.
