Mike Trout’s 2025 season got off to a rough start, and it only took one inning.
Trout was hit by a pitch in the left hand during his first at-bat of the season in his Los Angeles Angels’ game against the Chicago White Sox at Rate Field in Chicago, Ill. The Angels star was wearing protection over his left hand, but he still appeared to have been hurt by the hit-by-pitch.

Trout getting hit put runners on the corners with just one out, but that didn’t matter as the Angels were unable to score. Trout remained in the game despite being hit and flied out in his next at-bat.
Trout being hit in his first at-bat seemed to be a bad omen. The 33-year-old outfielder has not played in 140 games in a season since 2018. His seasons have been cut short by injuries in each of the last four years. In both 2021 and 2024, he was unable to play more than 36 games in a season.
All the Angels want is for Trout to finally be healthy for most of a season. Instead, they had to panic after he got hit by a pitch in his first at-bat.
