We have another clear sign that Mookie Betts is going to be traded by the Boston Red Sox, potentially within days.
Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic told MLB Network’s “Hot Stove” program on Monday that he would not be surprised to see Betts dealt within days, and it was now a question of when, not if, the superstar outfielder would be on the move.
“This is going to happen,” Rosenthal said, via MLB.com. “Mookie Betts is getting traded. The only question is when and where.”
This comes on the heels of earlier reports that state the Los Angeles Dodgers are viewed as Betts’ “inevitable” destination. That would make sense given what sort of players they can offer in return, as well as the fact that they’ve fallen short in pursuits of other star players during the offseason. The San Diego Padres are also involved, but they may be chasing the Dodgers at this point in those talks.
Betts, the 2018 American League MVP, hit .295 with 29 home runs for the Red Sox last season. He’s entering the final year of team control, and the cost-cutting Red Sox would rather trade him than bow to his reported contract demands.
