Nathan Eovaldi’s big comeback has hit a major roadblock.
The Tampa Bay Rays pitcher is reportedly having new issues with his elbow and will likely require surgery, though the hope is he’ll pitch in 2018.
BREAKING: Eovaldi is out for #Rays. Has loose bodies in elbow, arthroscopic surgery seems likely. Could return this year. Had looked very sharp this spring in return from 2nd Tommy John.

As noted, this is particularly unsettling given Eovaldi has already had two Tommy John surgeries. His most recent one ensured he hasn’t pitched in a competitive game in roughly a year and a half. The Rays were looking at him to boost their rotation after he posted a 4.45 ERA over parts of two seasons with the New York Yankees.
