Report: Nationals unwilling to meet asking price for JT Realmuto
According to Chelsea Janes of the Washington Post, the Nationals and Miami Marlins have continued to discuss catcher J.T. Realmuto, but the Nationals remain unwilling to meet Miami’s asking price.
Nats and Marlins have talked extensively about Realmuto in recent days, according to multiple people familiar with the talks. So far, price remains too high. But if they’re going to sell some pieces, it’s clearly not as part of a wholesale tear down.

Janes also notes that the Nationals aren’t going to rebuild on the fly, at least during the season. The fact that they’re still pursuing Realmuto would seem to be an indication that they’re not giving up on 2018. Of course, by some indications, even a Realmuto acquisition might not fix what troubles the Nationals.
