Noah Syndergaard has partially torn lat muscle
The New York Mets sound like they’ll be without ace pitcher Noah Syndergaard for a while.
The team announced Monday that Syndergaard has been diagnosed with a partially torn lat muscle, which will send him to the disabled list. There is no timetable for his return.

Though the Mets aren’t offering a timeline, David Lennon of Newsday noted that fellow Mets starter Steven Matz had a similar injury in 2015 that shelved him for two months.

This is the culmination of a series of events relating to Syndergaard that will infuriate the Mets. A biceps issue cost him Thursday’s start, forcing the team to scramble for a replacement who was ultimately ineffective. Then, Syndergaard refused to go for an MRI, a decision that looked quite dumb after he had to leave Sunday’s start in the second inning. Perhaps this could have been prevented, or at least minimized, if Syndergaard hadn’t been so stubborn.
