Taveras was 22. He was regarded as one of the top prospects in the Cardinals’ system and showed his potential when he clubbed a pinch-hit home run in Game 2 of the NLCS against the Giants a few weeks ago:
Taveras was signed by the team in 2010 and hit .330 with 52 home runs during his minor league career. He batted .239 with three home runs during 80 games with the Cardinals this season.
