An overturned call at first base helped the Milwaukee Brewers close out Game 1 of the NLCS against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday night.
Dodgers outfielder Cody Bellinger led off the top of the 9th inning with a ground ball to the right side of the field where Milwaukee was shifted. Mike Moustakas fielded the ball and threw to first, where it was a bang-bang play. The call on the field was that Bellinger beat out the throw and was safe. However, the umpires reviewed the play on a challenge and overturned the call upon seeing that Bellinger had been thrown out by a hair.

That gave Milwaukee one out. Reliever Corey Knebel then struck out Yasmani Grandal for the second out before encountering some trouble.
He walked Joc Pederson and then allowed a run-scoring triple to Chris Taylor to make it 6-5. That’s why the replay review was so critical.
Had there not been a replay review and the rest of the inning played out the same, Taylor’s triple would have scored two and tied the game. Instead, the right call was made and Bellinger was ruled out. Justin Turner then struck out to end the game, giving him his fourth strikeout of the night.
