Pat Mahomes Sr. got into a heated verbal altercation with fellow former MLB pitcher John Rocker after the Super Bowl in New Orleans last week, but it sounds like the suspicions many had about the incident were warranted.
A video that went viral on social media showed Mahomes Sr., who is the father of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, exchanging words with Rocker on Bourbon Street. The two had to be separated, or so it appeared. You can watch the clip here.
According to court documents that were obtained by TMZ, Mahomes admitted that his argument with Rocker was staged. The 54-year-old is on probation because of his past arrests for driving while under the influence, and he made the admission while being questioned over a missed urine test.

Super Bowl LIX was held on Feb. 9. Mahomes was given permission to travel to Louisiana from Feb. 7 through Feb. 10. He reportedly missed a urine test on Feb. 11. While explaining himself to the court, Mahomes reportedly admitted that the squabble with Rocker “was a staged altercation to get publicity for [a] celebrity boxing match that was set to take place in April 2025.”
Mahomes submitted the urine sample on Feb. 12 and got away with only a warning from a judge.
Most fans suspected that Mahomes’ altercation with Rocker was a publicity stunt. The two former MLB pitchers agreed last month to square off in a celebrity boxing match for “Rough ‘N Rowdy,” which is Barstool Sports’ fight promotion.
Barstool founder Dave Portnoy confirmed the fight was in the works just days before the video of Mahomes and Rocker went viral.
Mahomes has pleaded guilty to driving while under the influence three times. The most recent arrest came days before the Super Bowl last year and led to a jail sentence.
