New Orleans was not all that hospitable to the Mahomes family over the past week.
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes lost Super Bowl 59 to the Philadelphia Eagles in embarrassing fashion. The 3-time champion was thoroughly outplayed by his counterpart Jalen Hurts.
Patrick’s father, Pat Mahomes Sr., also had a French Quarter face-off of his own. On Tuesday, a video of the 11-year MLB veteran went viral on X. In the clip, Mahomes Sr. was confronted by former Atlanta Braves closer John Rocker. The two exchanged words and had to be separated by Pat’s companions.
Perhaps Mahomes Sr. said something positive about the New York City subway system that did not sit right with Rocker.
The entire thing, however, seemed to be a publicity stunt for Mahomes Sr.’s upcoming fight with Rocker on Barstool Sports-owned fight promotion Rough ‘N Rowdy. Barstool owner Dave Portnoy confirmed the fight was in the works just days before the pair’s altercation in New Orleans.
Watching the video again, it’s hard to unsee it looking completely staged. The cameraman seemed to conveniently be filming Mahomes Sr. doing nothing in particular before Rocker showed up. Even the angle the cameraman was filming from provided the perfect vantage point to see Rocker make his fiery entrance.
Mahomes Sr. has dealt with some legal troubles over the years. Faking a viral video for some publicity does not seem so bad in comparison.
