The Boston Red Sox held an alumni game on Sunday morning, and you probably wouldn’t believe us if we told you Julio Lugo hit a moonshot off of Pedro Martinez. But it happened, and Pedro got more of a kick out of it than anyone.
Lugo, a career .269 hitter who had a total of 80 home runs with seven different teams, blasted a ball into the seats above the Green Monster at Fenway Park.

As you can see, Lugo enjoyed the moment. He stared Martinez down while walking to first base, and Pedro later joked about it while making a guest appearance in the NESN broadcast booth.

“Out of all people, a guy that hit like two homers in the big leagues is the one that gets a homer — boom!” Martinez said. “And he pimped it, too!”
Fortunately, Pedro said he’s grown used to giving up the long ball because even his kids take him deep these days.
Who else but Pedro with the quote of the day, on giving up the homer to Julio Lugo: "It’s all fun. I’m getting more used to doing that more often because my kids are now taking me deep all the time.”

Martinez is arguably the best pitcher of this generation, and he rarely gave up homers to guys like Lugo during his Hall of Fame career. We can tell by a tweet he sent earlier this season that he’s still an intense guy, so hopefully he doesn’t lose sleep over Lugo’s bomb.
