Phillies’ Odubel Herrera suspended 85 games for domestic violence
Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Odubel Herrera has been suspended 85 games by MLB for a violation of the league’s Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Policy.
Herrera was arrested in May after an alleged domestic violence incident involving his girlfriend at a casino in Atlantic City. A police report stated that the woman “had visible signs of injury to her arms and neck that was sustained after being assaulted by her boyfriend.”
Herrera was initially charged with simple assault, but the charge was dropped on Wednesday after the woman declined to press charges.
The 85-game suspension will take Herrera out the rest of the season and extend into next regular season.
The 27-year-old was batting .222 in 39 games this season.
