Phillies honored Roy Halladay’s playoff no-hitter anniversary in awesome way

Monday marked the 15th anniversary of Roy Halladay’s playoff no-hitter against the Cincinnati Reds, and the Philadelphia Phillies had a very cool way of commemorating the date.

Halladay no-hit the Cincinnati Reds in Game 1 of the 2010 National League Division Series, which remains the most recent individual no-hitter in MLB postseason history. The former Cy Young winner died in a 2017 plane crash, but the organization made sure his memory was not forgotten on Monday.

The Phillies had Halladay’s sons Braden and Ryan throw out the ceremonial first pitch prior to Game 2 of the NLDS at Citizens Bank Park against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Former catcher Carlos Ruiz, who caught Halladay’s no-hitter, was on hand to catch the ceremonial pitch on Monday.

The Phillies also made sure to note the date on their social media accounts.

Halladay played for the Phillies for the final four seasons of his career, where he won his second Cy Young Award and made the playoffs for the only two times in his career. He was posthumously elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2019, his first year of eligibility.

The Phillies are facing a must-win game Monday after a late Dodger comeback in Game 1, and are seeking to avoid having to go to Los Angeles down 2-0 in the best-of-5 series.
