R.A. Dickey stole Daniel Norris’ van and drove it around on field
While spring training can be a nervous time for young players hoping to land a spot on the major league roster, the relaxed atmosphere also lends itself to a fun, lighthearted experience.
At Blue Jays camp, veteran pitcher R.A. Dickey had a little fun at the expense of 21 year-old Daniel Norris. Norris has become known for the 1978 Volkswagen van he bought in 2011. He actually lived in it during the offseason named it “Shaggy” after the popular Scooby-Doo character.
On Thursday, Dickey hijacked “Shaggy” and took it for a joyride around the Jays facility.
“Stole Daniel norris’ van and drove it on the infield…. Smooth ride but I need some power steering. #vwvansaresweet” Dickey wrote on Twitter along with posting the above picture of him behind the wheel.
Quirkiness aside, Norris was ranked by Baseball America as the the Blue Jays’ top prospect heading into the 2015 season. He posted a 2.53 ERA with 163 strikeouts in 125 innings last year between High-A, Double-A, and Triple-A.
