The reigning World Series MVP may get off to a late start to next season.
Texas Rangers GM Chris Young revealed to reporters on Tuesday that star shortstop Corey Seager has undergone surgery for a sports hernia. While the Rangers are hopeful that Seager will be ready for Opening Day, Young notes that Seager first suffered the injury last postseason and that it did not get better with rest.

The four-time All-Star Seager definitely did not show any ill effects from the injury during Texas’ World Series victory. He clubbed three homers in five games during the series against the Arizona Diamondbacks, including a massive game-tying dinger in the ninth inning of Game 1. For his efforts, Seager earned the second World Series MVP award of his career (he also won it with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2020).
Nevertheless, the Rangers have to be proactive with Seager, who will turn 30 in April and is an extremely expensive investment (entering the third year of a 10-year, $325 million contract). Texas will already be down Max Scherzer to start the 2024 campaign, and now Seager is facing an uphill climb with his own injury recovery.
