Rays’ Nick Franklin worked as Uber driver during offseason
Nick Franklin is hoping to stick with the Tampa Bay Rays as a utility man this season. If he doesn’t make the roster, he knows what he can do for some spare cash.
Franklin was at Rays camp on Wednesday, two days ahead of when position players were set to report. He told the Tampa Bay Times’ Marc Topkin that he spent a part of his offseason working as an Uber driver.
#Rays INF/OF Nick Franklin said he spent a couple days this offseason as an @Uber driver, making 9-10 trips

#Rays Franklin has driven for @Uber in past offseasons, said he was limited this year timewise but still has 4.8 rating

Franklin is in his fourth season with the Rays and had a nice season last year. He batted .270 with six home runs in 60 games as a utility man.
You would think that a guy who’s made around $2 million during his pro career wouldn’t need to mess around with the few bucks that come from making a couple of drives, but it’s possible that Franklin just enjoys the easy cash. Surprisingly, he isn’t the first pro athlete we’ve covered who drives a car in the offseason.
