Ryan Braun runs Brewers out of first inning in NLDS Game 1

Ryan Braun

Ryan Braun ran the Milwaukee Brewers out of a potential big first inning with some aggressive baserunning that backfired in Game 1 of the NLDS on Thursday.

The Brewers had runners on first and second with two out in the bottom of the first and Jesus Aguilar at the plate. Colorado Rockies starter Antonio Senzatela threw a wild pitch that helped Braun and Travis Shaw move up bases. But Braun actually tried to advance two bases on the wild pitch and headed home, where he was easily thrown out to end the inning.

Senzatela had struggled with wild pitches in the inning. Braun had already advanced from first to second on a wild pitch during Shaw’s at-bat. Aguilar, who hit 35 homers with an .890 OPS during the regular season, would have had two runners in scoring position if Braun had held up. Instead, Braun tried to take two bases and cost Aguilar a big opportunity.
