The Arizona Diamondbacks’ acquisition of Shelby Miller is looking worse and worse.
The D-backs announced on Thursday that they have optioned Miller to Triple-A Reno:
#Dbacks option right-handed pitcher Shelby Miller to the Triple-A Reno @Aces. A corresponding move will be made tomorrow.

The move is hardly surprising as Miller has been ineffective since returning from the disabled list following a right index finger injury. He gave up six runs in his last start, five before that, and seven three starts ago. He’s 2-9 with a 7.14 ERA and 1.75 WHIP this season.
Miller was acquired by the Diamondbacks in a controversial offseason move from Atlanta, where he was an All-Star last season. Arizona sent Atlanta former No. 1 overall pick Dansby Swanson, Ender Inciarte and Aaron Blair for Miller. Pairing him with Zack Greinke was supposed to give Arizona a strong pitching tandem, but it’s turned out to be anything but that.
