Steven Souza probably won’t be sending a Christmas card to his former team, the Tampa Bay Rays, any time soon.
The Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder took to Twitter on Tuesday to take a shot at the Rays for designating ex-teammate Corey Dickerson for assignment over the offseason. Dickerson, an All-Star in 2017, has since been putting up big numbers for the Pittsburgh Pirates to start the year, and Souza was more than happy to point out what a big mistake the Rays made by letting him go.
Corey Dickerson is hitting .324 and was DFA’d, and was a 2017 all star, and was only making 5.9 million! Pirates got a good one!

The vendetta here seems to be a bit personal — the day after Dickerson was DFA’d, Souza himself was traded to Arizona by the Rays despite a breakout 2017 season where he hit 30 home runs with 78 RBIs and 16 stolen bases.
Souza is not the only former Ray to express displeasure with how the team has handled their business lately, and it is obvious that Tampa’s cost-cutting ways this offseason rubbed a lot of people, players and fans alike, the wrong way.
