Strange details emerge about Tanner Scott’s injury

Los Angeles Dodgers reliever Tanner Scott has apparently been dealing with a posterior problem.

Scott, who has yet to pitch for the Dodgers this postseason, has been battling an injury to his behind, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reported on Monday. The lefty Scott called the ailment an “infection” while a Dodgers official characterized it as a “cyst.”

Additionally, Scott said that he is back to throwing and hopes to rejoin the Dodgers for the World Series. You can read Heyman’s full report on the situation here.

The Dodgers previously revealed that Scott had undergone a “lower-body abscess procedure.” The procedure led to Scott’s removal from the NLDS roster before he had pitched in a single postseason game. He was also left off the Dodgers’ roster for the NLCS against the Milwaukee Brewers as a result.

Scott, a 2024 All-Star, has had a brutal season for the Dodgers. He posted a 4.74 ERA with an MLB-leading 10 blown saves over 61 appearances for the team. Scott’s struggles even led to Dodgers fans booing him at home multiple times.

Fortunately for the Dodgers, Roki Sasaki has emerged as their new ninth-inning man for the playoffs and has been very effective. Alex Vesia, Anthony Banda, and Blake Treinen have also been getting high-leverage opportunities in the postseason to round out the bullpen. As such, Scott might not even be needed for the Dodgers at this point (though it probably can’t hurt to at least have another situational arm to turn to if the opportunity so arises).
