Johnny Cueto is now considering Tommy John surgery to address his persistent elbow pain.
The San Francisco Giants pitcher started off the season great before being sidelined by elbow issues. He returned in early July after missing over two months due to the injury, and he did not fare well. Cueto’s ERA jumped to 3.23 as he allowed 16 earned runs over four starts.
On Monday, Giants manager Bruce Bochy said that Tommy John surgery was a “strong possibility” for the pitcher.

The discussion of this possibility is not surprising. Cueto said on Saturday that he was having elbow pain every time he threw, which is obviously a serious problem.
This is bad news for the Giants, who may end up not getting anything out of Cueto the rest of the season or for 2019. Cueto is owed $17 million per season through 2021.
