Tony Clark resigned from his position as the executive director of the Major League Baseball Players Association on Monday, and some interesting information has emerged about his resignation.
ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported on Monday that Clark resigned after an internal investigation revealed Clark was having an inappropriate relationship with his sister-in-law. Clark’s sister-in-law had been hired by the players union in 2023.

Not only was Clark apparently having an inappropriate relationship with his sister-in-law, but the union was also being investigated by the Eastern District of New York for alleged financial improprieties. The union on Monday had been scheduled to hold its first meeting with players this spring, but that planned meeting at Cleveland Guardians camp was abruptly canceled.
Clark, 53, has worked for the MLBPA since 2010. He became the executive director of the MLBPA in 2013, becoming the first player to hold the role. Clark, who was best known as a player for his time with the Detroit Tigers, received a five-year contract extension from the union after the 2022 season. He has been an aggressive defender of MLB players in his dealings with Rob Manfred.
