Former Atlanta Braves pitcher Tommy Hanson died of health complications caused by cocaine and alcohol use.
Hanson, 29, died on Nov. 9 after he slipped into a coma and was hospitalized. Coweta County Coroner Richard Hawk said Hanson lost his life due to “delayed complications of cocaine and alcohol toxicity” and “illicit drug use,” according to WXIA in Atlanta.
Hanson’s career looked incredibly promising when he debuted for the Braves in 2009. He had four strong seasons in Atlanta before he was traded to the Angels prior to the 2013 season. His career went downhill after the trade, and he last pitched in the majors in 2013.
