Trevor Bauer’s favorite Star Wars movie is The Phantom Menace
Thankfully, Cleveland Indians right-hander Trevor Bauer is a professional baseball pitcher and not a movie critic.
A day before his ALCS Game 3 start against the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday, Bauer spoke with the media, and Joe Posnanski of NBC Sports shared Bauer’s hot take on the Star Wars franchise: The Phantom Menace is his favorite of the seven films.

Leave it to Bauer, who was born in 1991, to give us millennials a bad rap. Though I will concede that Darth Maul is the most compelling non-Vader Sith Lord and that his double-bladed lightsaber probably edges out Mace Windu’s bright purple saber as the coolest weapon in the entire galaxy far, far away, I don’t suspect that many share Bauer’s opinion on this one. Lousy writing, uninspired acting, overdone CGI, and not to mention the head-scratching introduction of midichlorians and those insufferable Gungans. Like most everyone else, I just don’t see how Bauer, or anybody for that matter, can think that The Phantom Menace even deserves to be mentioned in the same sentence as the original trilogy.
Then again, Bauer is earning a reputation lately as quite the quirky young fellow, so I suppose it’s all a matter of taste.
