Twins reportedly eyeing late-inning relievers in trade talks
The Minnesota Twins are shaping up to be one of the most active teams at the trade deadline as they seek to ensure that their hot start does not go to waste.
According to La Velle E. Neal III of the Star Tribune, the Twins have checked in on late inning relievers, particularly Kirby Yates of the San Diego Padres and Ken Giles of the Houston Astros, as they seek to fortify their pitching staff ahead of a potential October run.
Left-hander Taylor Rogers has comfortably been Minnesota’s best reliever, posting a 1.82 ERA so far this season. He’s the outlier, however, with the Twins’ bullpen ERA sitting at 4.30 and in need of a bit of depth.
Late inning relief may not be the only upgrade the Twins are after. What is clear is that they believe their pitching staff needs lengthening and are prepared to consider the moves necessary to deepen it.
