The world just lost an all-time icon. But the state of Minnesota just lost a beloved hometown hero.
Entertainer extraordinaire Prince, who was born and raised in Minneapolis and was considered probably the preeminent figure in the Minnesota musical canon, tragically passed away at the age of 57 at his home on Thursday.
Fittingly, the Minnesota Twins posted the following tribute to their Twitter account shortly after the news broke, showing their home ballpark of Target Field turned purple in Prince’s honor:

The weather also gave the tribute a poetic double meaning in a nod to Prince’s legendary 1984 album (and accompanying film of the same name) Purple Rain, widely seen as his magnum opus.
Prince’s impact and influence transcended across all worlds, the world of sports included (he was known for perhaps the most famous halftime performance in Super Bowl history), and it’s only right that we all pay homage to one of the greatest musicians to ever bless us with his talents.
