There was a pregame confrontation between the Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday, and now we have some more information about the matter.

Members of both teams got into it during warmups before the game. Players and officials from both sides gathered in the infield around the third base line and were seen talking.

Angels pitcher Tyler Anderson and Red Sox first base coach Jose Flores were seen getting face-to-face in a confrontation, which likely led to the whole thing. According to a report from Mike Rodriguez, Anderson had confronted Flores over something having to do with signs.

According to my sources, the problem that arose during today's practice was due to the fact that, apparently, Flores, the first base coach for Boston, was stealing the signals from pitcher Tyler Anderson. During the game on Monday, Anderson allowed 5 runs. Today, when Anderson… pic.twitter.com/gVdyQQHgrc

Rodriguez says Anderson felt Flores was stealing signals from first base during Anderson’s pitching start on Monday. Anderson allowed five runs on seven hits and two walks over 4.1 innings in Monday’s 7-6 win over the Red Sox.

Since Anderson is a lefty, Flores would have had a good view of where Anderson was placing his hands and the ball, and could have helped him pick up any pitch-tipping tendencies. There is nothing illegal about picking up signs or deciphering if an opponent is tipping pitches. It’s only illegal if you use technology during the game as a means to help break the signs or communicate those picked up signals.

The Red Sox wound up winning the game 11-9 on the shortest walk-off home run you’ll see.
