Arizona Diamondbacks shortstop Geraldo Perdomo was involved in a scary incident during Sunday’s game against the Houston Astros at Daikin Park in Houston, Texas.
After recording a single in the third inning against Houston starter Peter Lambert, Perdomo was hit in the helmet by a 93 mph line drive off the bat of teammate and star second baseman Ketel Marte.
The 26-year-old Perdomo spent several minutes on the ground, as Marte looked disgruntled in the background. Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo and Arizona training staff attended to the one-time All-Star, who later left the contest with a head contusion.

The good news for Arizona, which defeated the Astros in the series finale, 3-2, is that Perdomo was able to walk off the field before getting replaced at shortstop in the bottom of the third by Ildemaro Vargas. Lovullo also said that Perdomo “has not entered into the concussion protocol,” and that the team felt they “dodged a bullet,” via Joshua Koch of MLB.com.
It remains to be seen whether Perdomo will be able to give it a go or get a green light to see action in Arizona’s series opener on Monday against the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Mo.
So far in the 2026 MLB season, Perdomo is batting .252/.359/.366 with nine home runs and 48 RBIs.
