Vladimir Guerrero Jr. in tears after Blue Jays make the World Series

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. let all of his emotions out on Monday once the weight of the moment had sunk in.

The Toronto Blue Jays superstar was in tears after his team outlasted the Seattle Mariners in Game 7 of the ALCS at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada. The Blue Jays trailed 3-1 heading into the seventh-inning stretch. George Springer clobbered a three-run home run to give Toronto the lead for good, which sent the Toronto crowd into an absolute frenzy.

Mariners slugger Julio Rodriguez struck out to end the ballgame with the Blue Jays ahead 4-3, earning Toronto its first trip to the World Series since 1993.

With the AL pennant secured, Guerrero Jr. fell to his knees while screaming to the heavens.

Guerrero was in tears as he geared up for his postgame interview.

“We’re doing this for the city, man,” Guerrero Jr. told Sportsnet’s Hazel Mae. “We’re doing this for y’all. Four more, baby. Four more. … We believe in each other. We believe in this team. That first day in training [camp], we believed it all.”

Guerrero was 24 hours removed from telling the same reporter about how he was “born ready” for Game 7 with a World Series berth on the line. He showed that readiness all postseason long with a historic run that, win or lose, will rank among the greatest individual playoff runs of all time.

Through 11 games, Guerrero Jr. has a .442 batting average with an on-base percentage above .500 and an absurd 1.440 OPS. He’s already hit a franchise-record six home runs this postseason alone, with at least four more games to go against a stacked Los Angeles Dodgers team.
