Walker Buehler thinks the idea of him being the Los Angeles Dodgers’ Opening Day starter is “ludicrous.”
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts announced on Tuesday that Clayton Kershaw will be the team’s Opening Day starter this season. Though Kershaw has a stellar resume and reputation, there were some who felt Buehler was more deserving of the honor because he emerged as the ace last season.
Bueler told the OC Register’s Bill Plunkett that not even he feels he should get that honor over Kershaw.

"… When Clayton Kershaw isn’t a Dodger anymore then you can start saying that stuff. But people saying that this year I thought was pretty ludicrous. I was like, ‘Fellas, do you see who’s on the other side of this clubhouse?’" #Dodgers

Buehler is getting there based on what he’s done so far, but for something like Opening Day starter, that’s an honor Kershaw has earned. Maybe if Buehler continues to surge this season and Kershaw falls off things could change next year, but that still seems like something the southpaw should get based on his accomplishments.
