Yankees could remove Sonny Gray from rotation
In the span of a year, Sonny Gray could go from being the prize trade deadline acquisition of the New York Yankees to being out of the rotation entirely.
After a 7-5 loss to the lowly Baltimore Orioles in which Gray was rocked for seven runs in 2.2 innings, Yankee manager Aaron Boone admitted that the team will give some thought to removing the struggling Gray from the rotation.

Gray’s rough outing comes just as he had been stringing together a few solid outings. He had allowed just two earned runs over his last 16.1 innings pitched, winning three consecutive outings. Not lasting three innings against an Orioles team that traded almost all of its top talent is going to undo all of that.
It’s been a brutal season for Gray, who has a 5.56 ERA in his first full season with the Yankees and has had to make more comments like this than he’d have ever hoped. A break from the rotation could be just what he needs.
