Report: Yankees have inquired about Chris Sale
The New York Yankees may not be so set on selling as it seemed.
According to Jon Heyman of Today’s Knuckleball, the Yankees have called the Chicago White Sox about pitcher Chris Sale, and some within the game believe they could look to be buyers before the August 1 trade deadline.
Heyman cautions, though, that even if they do jump into the race all the way, they aren’t favorites. The Texas Rangers are said to be “determined” on the Sale front, while the Boston Red Sox are seen as having better prospects should they want to make the deal.
The price for Sale is said to be high, with the White Sox asking for as many as five quality pieces in return. It makes sense why, as Sale is an elite starter who is under team control through 2019 for a paltry $42 million.
The Yankees also don’t do throwback uniforms, so there wouldn’t be any problems for Sale on that front.
