Yu Darvish getting second opinion from Rangers doctor on arm injury

Yu Darvish made a rehab start in the minor leagues on Monday that looked pretty good on paper, but it seems as though his body did not respond as well as he had hoped it would.

After he allowed just one run over five innings for Low-A South Bend, Darvish said his injured triceps still is not feeling 100 percent. According to Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune, the right-hander flew back to Texas this week to get a second opinion from his former team’s doctor.

While Darvish was regularly throwing in the mid-90s in his rehab start, he must still be experiencing discomfort if he’s getting a second opinion from another team’s doctor. Cubs manager Joe Maddon had originally set he was planning to put Darvish back into Chicago’s starting rotation over the weekend if he felt well enough, but that has obviously been pushed back indefinitely.

Darvish is 1-3 with a 4.95 ERA in eight starts this season.
