Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic has won the MVP award twice in his career. But on Monday night, it was Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards who got the MVP chants at Ball Arena in Denver, Colo.

Edwards and the Timberwolves embarrassed the Nuggets 106-80 on their home floor to go up 2-0 in their Western Conference second-round series.

Edwards was undeniably the best player on the floor during Monday’s contest. He finished with 27 points and 7 assists on 11/17 shooting from the field.

The 22-year-old was so good that the few Timberwolves fans in attendance made sure to shower their star player with MVP chants.

Edwards even pulled out the Michael Jordan shrug after an early fourth-quarter dagger to put his team up by 23 — a fitting lead. The moment sent some mixed signals given that Edwards no longer wants to be compared to the Chicago Bulls icon.

The Nuggets appeared frantic and frustrated throughout the entirety of Game 2. Nuggets head coach Michael Malone went off on a referee in the first quarter. Jamal Murray also threw a foreign object onto the court in anger one quarter later (video here).

The MVP chants for Edwards will probably be much louder as the series shifts to Minnesota for Games 3 and 4.
