An arrest warrant has been issued for a fan who allegedly went to deranged lengths to get an autograph from Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry.
Chinese exchange student Sheng Gao was accused of breaking into Curry’s home in October. According to Tim Fang of CBS News, the 18-year-old was scheduled to appear in Redwood City misdemeanor court Thursday but did not attend his arraignment. The no-show led the presiding judge to issue a warrant for Gao’s arrest.
The prosecution alleged that Gao rode a bus on Oct. 15 to the wealthy town of Atherton where Curry and his family reside. Gao was said to be seeking the Warriors star’s autograph.
Gao was able to speak to a woman who pointed out the Curry family’s residence. At around 5:50 p.m., prosecutors said that he walked up to the gate, pushed the buttons on the intercom, and walked in as someone opened the gate for him.
Gao allegedly walked right through the unlocked front door. Soon after, he was accosted by a nanny who saw him through surveillance footage. The teenaged intruder left following the exchange with the nanny.
Curry and his wife Ayesha were not in the residence when the alleged incident unfolded. But prosecutors stated that the couple’s three children were home at the time.
